Ever catch your reflection and focus on your scars or bald spots? Feeling overwhelmed, a little tender, and maybe like your radiant glow's been dimmed?

I get it. You've tried it all—the books, the therapy sessions, those quirky fidget toys, supplements, bracelets, and even those sneaky cover-ups. And yet, here we are.

I know you're fierce. You've conquered so many battles in your life and made incredible strides in your mental well-being. But beating this BFRB? It feels like the Holy Grail; you haven't found it yet and you're starting to wonder if it even exists.

You're starting to wonder if you're just too far gone for help. You can't afford another failure, emotionally or otherwise.

And you might be wondering, "How can I squeeze in another 'solution'?" It feels like chasing a mirage; no matter how hard you run towards a solution, it always seems just out of reach, leaving you more exhausted than when you started.

But you're strong. You've got this. Sometimes, though, even the strongest of us need a hand to hold.

What if I told you the missing piece isn't about stopping the behavior at all, but actually lies in the weight of the shame that's been piling on you year after year?

New research suggests that this cycle of shame can keep us trapped in our BFRBs. It's like a dance: shame leads to distress, which leads to the urge, which circles back to more shame.

My turning point? Letting go of the shame that came with my hair-pulling.

If you're ready to shed that weight, embrace your true, compassionate self, and start healing from your BFRB, come on over and join us at the BFRB Recovery Alliance! 💖👇

Hi, I'm Carlee, and I'm recovering from trichotillomania.

At 14, my world was rocked by Trichotillomania – a nameless condition back then, characterized by the irresistible urge to pull out one's hair.
I recall sitting in our living room, my mother yelling about the disgusting pile of hair on the floor, the embarrassment and shame etched into my adolescent psyche.
High school was a whole other trial – the mocking remarks ("Ewww, stop that!") and endless attempts to hide my condition with hats and contorted hairstyles.
I was desperate to stop.
And so began my lifelong journey to understand why I was hypnotized by this compulsion.

Chasing Evasive Relief

Fast forward to my 18th birthday.
Armed with a recently discovered name for my condition, I signed myself up for an experimental drug trial at Duke University.
There was hope!
...Then disappointment when it didn't do a damn thing. (Sound familiar?)
Over the next 18 years, a carousel of therapists, pharmaceutical drugs, support groups, apps, and habit-tracking devices followed, yet none provided the relief I so desperately craved.
Even the moments of remission were short-lived, drowned by relapses and my spiraling self-esteem that I didn't have enough willpower to "just stop" like everyone kept telling me to do.

Wedding Wig

On my wedding day, I wore a $1,000 wig, concealing the bald spots that dotted my scalp.
Buzz cuts, while practical, only drew unwanted attention and fueled my self-loathing.
I hated the look, and the last thing I wanted was for my coworkers to comment how they "could never pull that off!".
Despite the struggle, my physical and mental health inspired me to dive into the world of Nutrition & Functional Medicine, a decision that changed the trajectory of my life forever.

The hope that there could be a connection between diet, lifestyle, and mental health fueled my studies.
I dove in deep, writing my master's degree thesis on the use of supplement called NAC in the treatment of body-focused repetitive behaviors.

Confronting the Shadow

Despite the strides I made academically in illuminating the potential mechanisms of action of NAC on neurotransmitters and oxidative stress, I hit a roadblock.
The shadow of my condition ruled my life, even dictating the jobs I took and the activities I engaged in.
My fingers grew calluses, ached from the constant pulling, and I worried carpel tunnel was next.
But the real pain lay in the mental & emotional exhaustion of fighting it day in and day out.
But then, in my deepest despair, I hit my breaking point and had a breakthrough.

The Unexpected Breakthrough

I thought I had tried everything.
But a chance encounter on Instagram led me to something I had never considered before and a new understanding.
The root of the behavior was subconsciously rooted, not a lack of willpower.
Phew! You're not just undisciplined, weak, or lazy!
Tackling those subconscious beliefs, with help, I experienced a miraculous overnight recovery.
The urges disappeared completely.
Although I've had relapses, I now have my own formula for handling them and know that I can manage whatever comes up.

Unleashing Authentic Potential

Discovering the secret to controlling my BFRB didn't just give me freedom from hair-pulling.
It opened up an expanse of mental real estate that I was able to I dedicate to reshaping my life.
I bought my dream house.
I started my dream Airbnb business.
I started learning new skills I thought were impossible.
I've been able to truly embody my most authentic self, living an unashamed life.
When you do this work, a whole new world opens up that you didn't even realize you were missing.

A Hope for Others

Today, I stand here as a beacon of hope for others who share my struggle.
And to tell you that the fight against BFRBs is not as hard as you think.
I've felt the freedom that comes from having a clear mind.
Now I'm committed to sharing my story and helping others navigate this complex journey.
You don't have to go at it alone; you shouldn't have to.
Let's come together, confront our shadows, and pave the way toward a shame-free, fulfilling life.
In a community, that's where the real magic happens.

In a world drowning in self-help books, text therapy from your phone, and inspirational Instagram quotes, it's easy to think we can combat our struggles with BFRBs alone.

But here's the truth—without a supportive community, you're fighting an uphill battle.

I've seen it time and time again; those who go it solo continue to suffer.

Your mom may be your biggest fan, your partner may be supportive, and your therapist may have a PhD, but let's be honest--they don't truly 'get it.'

They can't fathom the amount of space this takes up in your brain, the emotional toll, and the incessant urges.

What you need is a sanctuary, a sisterhood of women who share your experience and understand your pain.

That's why I launched the BFRB Recovery Alliance

In my years of both personal and academic exploration, I've learned something irrefutable: healing happens faster in a community

When you shed the shame of asking for help—yet again—and know there's a chorus of understanding voices ready to uplift you, that's when true transformation unfolds.

It's not just about leaning on collective wisdom; it's about swapping your finite well of willpower for an infinite source of shared strength.

Community isn't a buzzword; it's an accelerator of change

It's the antidote to the isolation, misunderstanding, and ceaseless trial and error that marks the solitary journey.

In this Alliance, you won't just find coping strategies; you'll find your tribe.

So why keep trudging the slow and hard path alone?

Experience the rapid, life-changing power that only a committed community can offer.

Let's rewrite our stories, and let's do it together.

You might be thinking, "I've been part of other BFRB support groups, and they didn't help me."

Trust me; I've been there, too. Reddit groups. Facebook groups. In-person support groups. I've tried them all.

We understand the frustration of joining a group only to find it turns into an endless cycle of complaining, not action.

Or even worse—a triggering environment that leaves you feeling more distraught than before you joined.
